In a pulsating Chairman’s Cup final ANP were just about good value for their narrow 2-1 win over a gallant GGFC team who may have taken the game into extra-time had their normally dead-eyed marksman, Sam Ameen, not shot narrowly wide with only seconds remaining
The cup final played between two evenly matched teams was 1-1 after the first 80 minutes and stayed the same after 20 minutes of extra time which lead to a penalty shoot-out (not always the best way for the teams to decide the outcome of a final or for the nerves of their managers but great value for the spectators and perfect timing for the awards dinner). The stunning saves made by Squadron goalkeeper, Hocky Szeto, were matched and surpassed by his opposite number, Jamie Devonshire, in the shootout with Albion prevailing on sudden death penalties.
The Exco XI vs Referees curtain-raiser was abandoned due to inappropriate walrus-mating-impressions by the referee's GK and a senior member of the YYL committee. This meant that all match details are rescinded and Spartans’ Nick Day does not win the coveted Exco Golden Boot.
A very healthy 440 attendees were at the dinner to enjoy some fine food and even finer banter from the true master of MC’s, Jon Mckinlay, and to see the season’s winners collect their awards.
The AGM will be at the end of June with the date, time and location to be announced shortly.
