Red card and disciplinary incident: Six-match ban for violent conduct combined with poor disciplinary record (Red card incident in April, 2011) Tuesday 3rd May 2011

The Disciplinary Sub-committee (DSC) of the Yau Yee League has reviewed reports from a recent match in which a player was shown a red card for kicking a player who was on the ground. As a result of the nature of the offence, accumulated disciplinary points this season and the player's poor disciplinary record over the past few seasons, the DSC imposed a six-match ban on the player (which will carry over the Sixes tournament and into next season, given there were only three league matches remaining after the red card was given).

Having reviewed the reports, the DSC concluded that the player committed an act of violent conduct. Under Disciplinary Guideline 4 of the League Rules, the minimum penalty for such conduct is a further two-match suspension in addition to the automatic suspension for receiving a red card and a fine of HK$500.

However, the player in question was already on five disciplinary points for the season, so the red card took him to eight disciplinary points for the season, which automatically attracted an additional one-match ban and a fine of HK$1,000 in accordance with Disciplinary Guideline 5.

Taking into account the player's poor disciplinary record this season and the previous three seasons, as well as the violent nature of this sending-off offence, the DSC imposed an additional two-match ban on the player.

In summary, therefore, taking into account the above factors, the player was subject to:

1. A ban for 6 (six) matches
2. A fine of HK$1,500
3. 8 disciplinary points for this season

The team in question did not appeal the decision.
