Hoo Cheung v CS Old Boys, 9 December 2007
- Red Card for Violent Conduct
The Disciplinary Sub-committee (DSC) of the Yau Yee League reviewed reports from the referee and both teams on an incident that led to a Hoo Cheung player receiving a red card in this match.
Based on the reports, the DSC concluded that the player committed an act of violent conduct during a stoppage in play, which involved contact with a CS Old Boys player who was already on the ground and receiving medical attention.
This conduct was seen as a particularly serious case by the DSC, and accordingly the player was subject to the following penalties –
$1,000 fine
six-match ban
3 disciplinary points.
Under Rule 60, Hoo Cheung subsequently appealed the severity of the punishment, on the grounds that their player had not intended to harm the CS Old Boys player. Under Rule 61 the DSC reviewed the case. The DSC took account of Hoo Cheung’s grounds for appeal, noting that there may have been no intent to cause serious injury. Nonetheless, having sought further information on the circumstances of the incident, the DSC considered that the original decision should stand.
The six-match ban is effective from 20 January 2008.
