The cup quarter finals brought few surprises yesterday, with the “favourites” all qualifying for the last four. In the game of the day, USRC beat Antonhill but only after a thrilling match that went to penalties after the match was tied at 2-2 after 80 minutes and then extra time, Gary Rollinson emulated his boyhood hero Chris Waddle in the shootout but was spared by Paul Rae-Howard’s heroics in goal. 816 stay in the hunt for the double after an emphatic 6-1 win over French kiss with goals coming from Nice Nnanenye Nwulu (3), skipper Joe Chung (2) and Tse Man Chun (1), Wanderers made it to the last four after winning 4-0 against Darts in the early game at Sheung Shui and holders Colts won by the same score line in the “derby” game against Albion. The details for the draw for the semi-finals will be published shortly with games to be held on 13th April.
Mobsters maintained their unbeaten run in the league this season and increased their lead at the top of the third division to 13 points after a hard fought 2-1 victory over Standard Chartered who are now moving closer to relegation, Mobsters goals coming from Lars Nielsen and Lester Rosario, CAPS and NASA remain in second and third places respectively after playing out a 1-1 draw, Grasshoppers closed the gap and remain in fourth spot after a 1-0 over WYFC06, Rising Sun thrashed Hung Art 4-0 to move a little closer to safety, Scorpions did the same with 2-1 win over HKSS and outward Bound and Amphibians played out a scoreless draw, leaving the relegation battle quite evenly poised as we enter the final “furlong”.
GGFC took a step nearer to the third division after beating Colloids 2-1 in a game that had an own goal, two brilliant strikes from Nick Mawdsley (GGFC) and Nick Allcock (Colloids), the latter being a contender for goal of the season, and a brilliant one-handed save by “Oids ‘keeper Jimmy Wenham, Crusaders dropped further points after going down 0-1 to Corinthians and they may have to win their game against Colloids to maintain a realistic chance of promotion in their first YYL season, Dynamo stay in fourth place after a 4-2 win over Youth Coaches, Jonathan Cockett scoring two more goals to add to his impressive tally, Bapcoll and HKU70s remain in fifth and sixth places respectively after drawing nil-nil, HOB and Power 22 drew 1-1 and Barclays won 3-0 against Green Tree.
