Abandonment of Match on 21 October 2007
The Disciplinary Sub-committee (DSC) of the Yau Yee League has reviewed the case of a match that was abandoned on 21 October due to one of the teams (having started the match with 8 players) being left with only 7 players on the pitch after a player received a red card
The DSC noted that the match was abandoned with 10 minutes left to play, at which time the other team was leading by more than one goal.
The DSC has had regard to Rules 11 of the Yau Yee League Rules and Regulations, which concerns the Abandonment of Matches, noting that –
When a match is abandoned, for whatever reason, both teams should send a report to the League within 24 hours
The remaining portion of an abandoned match should normally be played
With the above in mind, the DSC has decided that –
Given their failure to report on the abandonment within 24 hours, the team that fielded only 8 players should be fined $500.
There is no compelling reason to play the remaining 10 minutes of this match, given that the result already clearly favoured the other team – therefore the result should stand, and all goals scored and cards given during the match should also stand.
The DSC has reminded the team concerned to ensure that sufficient players are available for matches in future. The DSC will monitor the number of players fielded by this team, and if the DSC finds that the team fields fewer than 11 players for a match on more than one occasion during the remainder of this season, it will consider disciplinary action against the team - (Hon. Secretary Wilson Hon)
