Manual Alteration of Team Sheets
We would like to remind Team Reps that under Rule 34 manual changes to team sheets – i.e., writing in changes to the list of players on the printed team sheet before a match – are not allowed. If a player is not listed on the printed team sheet, he is not eligible to play in the match. (even if his photo is on the photo sheet. The photo sheet is a supplementary document only.)
The penalties for altering team sheets by hand are a $500 fine and the deduction of three points and three goals. Two teams have already failed to observe this rule in the current season and have been penalised accordingly.
The penalties are harsh in order to guard against teams trying to seek an unfair advantage by fielding players who may not be properly registered at the time of the match. There is no implication that the two teams mentioned above tried to seek such an advantage, however the rules still apply even in cases of administrative error.
To re-iterate: if a player’s name does not appear on the printed team sheet given to the officials before the match, then he is not eligible to play (regardless of whether his photo is on the photo sheet) and his name should not be added manually, otherwise the team will be in breach of Rule 34.
Hon. Secretary
