The exco has been actively working with the referee’s association to improve referee performances at Yau Yee League games. One of the elements we are seeking team rep assistance on is “the reasons for giving a bad referee score”. We have respectfully requested the referee’s association to temporarily remove referees who continually get a below average rating from officiating YYL matches. In return, the referees have (reasonably) requested that teams provide explanations for low referee ratings.

As such, from this weekend onwards, we will be requesting team reps to provide a short report / explanation when they give referees a rating of 3 or below on any match report. This feedback can be a few lines written down at the bottom of the team sheet to be faxed back to the AO and div reps or sent to the AO and div reps in a separate file via email. The referee’s association will then use this information to work with their referees. Please note that there will be no penaltyfor teams that do not include such additional information - however if no reason is given for awarding a low mark it is less likely that the referees' association will be able to follow up effectively with the official concerned.

We cannot improve referee performance without your help. Team reps please therefore remember to include a referee’s report if you decide to give a referee a 3 or lower rating.
